To ask the President of the Board of Trade what steps he is taking to ensure that all travel companies have sufficient bonds to cover their liabilities to package holidaymakers.

The Package Travel Regulations 1992 require all operators of packages to be able to provide sufficient evidence of security for the protection of money paid over in the event of insolvency. The enforcement of the regulations is the responsibility of local authority trading standards departments.
