§ Mr. Chris SmithTo ask the Secretary of State for Health what monitoring Her Majesty's Government are undertaking or funding as a follow-up to the findings of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund's cancer epidemiology unit's survey of the impact of parents' job histories in the nuclear industry on the health of children.
§ Mr. SackvilleThe findings of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund study have been referred to the Committee on Medical Aspects of Radiation in the Environment (COMARE) for advice, which will be published when available. A major study investigating the occurrence of all cancers and the incidence of other illnesses and conditions that could have a genetic cause among children of workers in the nuclear industry is already under way. It is being jointly funded by the Health and Safety Executive and the Department of Health.
