HC Deb 16 March 1993 vol 221 c182W
Lady Olga Maitland

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will list the local authorities who have provided secure units for juvenile offenders and those which have not.

Mr. Yeo

I refer my hon. Friend to the replies I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Elmet (Mr. Batiste) on 20 January at columns318–19.

Mr. Peter Atkinson

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what provision has been made by local authorities in the north-east to provide secure accommodation for young offenders.

Mr. Yeo

The information is shown in the table.

Secure accommodation in North East region
Location Managing authorities Number of secure places
New Aycliffe Royston House Durham 14
Aycliffe Community Home special unit Durham 36
Netherton Park Elm secure unit Northumberland 5

Mr. Peter Atkinson

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will list the premises in the Hexham constituency which have been used to provide accommodation for young offenders in each of the last five years; if she will provide details of the local authorities who have made use of them; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Yeo

Information is not available centrally about the individual premises in which children or young people are looked after by local authorities or voluntary organisations other than for local authority secure units. There are no secure units in the Hexham constituency.

The provision of accommodation for young people on sentence is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary.
