HC Deb 16 March 1993 vol 221 c229W
Mr. Kirkwood

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has to fund medical research projects in Scotland specifically targeted at the relief of tinnitus; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Stewart

[holding answer 15 March 1993]: The leading centre for research into hearing disorders, including tinnitus, in the United Kingdom is the Medical Research Council Institute of Hearing Research which is based in Nottingham with clinical outstations in Glasgow and Southampton. The Chief Scientist Office of the Scottish Office participates in the forward planning processes of the institute and keeps in close contact with its work. In addition, the Chief Scientist Office itself is always prepared to consider applications for the funding of soundly-based research projects in this as in other health-related subjects.
