To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department who is responsible for the appointment of the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis; and to whom the appointee is subsequently responsible.

Mr. Charles Wardle

The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis is appointed by her Majesty the Queen. He subsequently conducts the business of that office under the direction of the Secretary of State.
