To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many(a) males and (b) females were employed full time in (i) the electronics industry and (ii) the offshore oil and gas industries and ancillary employment ashore in each of the past 10 years.

[holding answer 15 March 1993]: Total offshore employment in the northern North sea in each year since 1982 is detailed in terms of an estimated range in the table. Employment onshore and offshore in companies wholly involved in oil-related activities in Scotland is also shown, together with estimated employment in the electronics industry. There are no separate figures for males and females.

[holding answer 15 March 1993]: A total of 207 staff are employed in full-time posts at the royal botanic garden, Edinburgh. The range of occupations covered includes: gardeners, scientists, administrators, curators, laboratory attendants, librarians, maintenance staff, and park constabulary.
