§ Mrs. DunwoodyTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what measurement he has made of the prevailing direction of wind over the proposed site for the Leighton hospital incinerator in Crewe; and over which areas emissions would pass being carried by such winds;
(2) if he will list the waste incinerators of comparable size and emission content to the proposed incinerator at Leighton hospital in Crewe;
(3) what measures are planned for the safe storage and maintenance of incoming waste in the event of temporary closure of the proposed incinerator at Leighton hospital in Crewe;
(4) what will be the average pH of the emissions entering the atmosphere from the proposed incinerator at Leighton hospital in Crewe.
§ Mr. MacleanI have had no measurements made of wind directions at the proposed site of the Leighton hospital incinerator. The environmental impact of releases and the operation of the proposed plant would be controlled by an authorisation under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (EPA 90).
When Her Majesty's inspectorate of pollution has received an application under the EPA 90 for the operation of the proposed incinerator at Leighton hospital it will consider all relevant issues, including those raised by the hon. Member, in determining the application and issuing any authorisation.
As Her Majesty's inspectorate of pollution at this stage has no firm information as to the design and releases from the proposed plant, it is not possible to provide a list of waste incinerators of comparable size and emission content.
