HC Deb 12 March 1993 vol 220 c745W
Mr. Clapham

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what plans she has to provide protection for workers against practices which fall below acceptable standards.

Mr. McLoughlin

[holding answer 9 March 1993]: There is already in existence a comprehensive statutory framework of employment protection rights. That will be further enhanced by provisions in the Trade Union Reform and Employment Rights Bill, which is currently before Parliament.

In general, however, terms and conditions of employment are a matter for agreement between employers and employees according to their own priorities, needs and circumstances, without Government intervention.
