HC Deb 12 March 1993 vol 220 c768W
Mr. Harvey

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many incidents of discharges of noxious substances controlled under the MARPOL regulations in United Kingdom coastal waters occurred in the latest year for which figures are available; and how many prosecutions have been brought relating to discharges of noxious substances from ships in United Kingdom coastal waters in violation of the MARPOL regulations.

Mr. Norris

[holding answer 9 March 1993]In 1991, the latest year for which details are available, there were 195 reported discharges from ships into United Kingdom waters, which resulted in two successful prosecutions being brought. This excludes prosecutions brought by members of the now defunct British Ports Federation for which no figures are available.
