To ask the Chairman of the Accommodation and Works Committee what maintenance work is to be undertaken on the Great Clock; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ray Powell

The Director of Works advises that routine inspection has revealed the need to replace a gear wheel on the chiming mechanism. This work will mean that the chimes of the Great Clock will be silenced for about eight weeks, commencing on 15 March. The hour strike will be unaffected.
