To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many representations he received during the consultation period on the future of local government in Wales; how many of these representations urged him to abolish Montgomeryshire; and if he will make a statement.

Since June 1991 I have received many tens of thousands of representations in the form of letters, petitions and other submissions including a small number who favoured unitary authority status for Powys.
