HL Deb 10 March 1993 vol 543 cc59-60WA
Lord Monson

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will state the net income after tax of a married woman (whose husband has no taxable income) with an annual gross taxable income of £1 million deriving solely from investments, assuming no mortgage interest, dependent relative or similar allowances are claimed,

  1. (a) in the year to 5th April 1979;
  2. (b) in the year to 5th April 1993.

The Minister of State, Department of Transport (The Earl of Caithness)

For a person aged under 65 whose income for income tax purposes was £1 million in each year, the net income after tax (including investment income surcharge in 1978–79) would be £28,902 in 1978–79 and £605,721 in 1992–93.
