HC Deb 10 March 1993 vol 220 c574W
Mr. Nigel Griffiths

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what powers he has under competition legislation to investigate the role of major retailers in decisions by manufacturers to withdraw supplies from other retail outlets.

Mr. Neil Hamilton

Under the competition legislation, the responsibility for investigating allegations of anticompetitive practices and restrictive practices lies with the Director General of Fair Trading. Unregistered registrable restrictive agreements can be addressed under the Restrictive Trade Practices Act 1976, while refusal to supply can be tackled under the Competition Act 1980 or the Resale Prices Act 1980.
