§ Mr. RedmondTo ask the Secretary of State for Education if he will list details of funds expended per pupil in each local education authority in 1991–92; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. ForthThe information requested is not yet available for 1991–92. The table gives the unit cost for nursery, primary and secondary pupils by local education authority for 1990–91, the latest year for which information on actual spending is available.
Notes to tables
1. Figures are derived from local education authorities' returns of their net institutional expenditure to the Department of the Environment and of their pupil numbers to the Department for Education.
2. Net institutional expenditure covers the direct costs in schools of salaries and wages, premises and certain supplies and services. It does not include the costs of school meals, home to school transport, LEA central administration, and financing costs of capital expenditure. Figures include unspent balances held by schools at the year end under local management of schools schemes.
