To ask the Secretary of State for Wales (1) how many pupils of key stage 3 age were involved in the pilot tests conducted by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate for key stage 3 English on which the proposed tests for 1993 are based;

(2) how many pupils of key stage 3 age plus one year were involved in the pilot tests conducted by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate for key stage 3 English on which the proposed test for 1993 are based.

The University of Cambridge local examinations syndicate conducted pilot trialling of test material for this summer's end of key stage 3 teats for English with some 3,000 pupils, all in year 10, in November 1992 and again in 1993.
