HC Deb 09 March 1993 vol 220 cc512-3W
Mr. Ainger

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what method he uses to extrapolate farm incomes in less-favoured areas in Wales as a whole from the samples in the farm business survey.

Mr. David Hunt

[holding answer 1 March 19931: The sample contains proportionately more farms with large gross margins than does Wales as a whole. This is done to reflect the importance of these farms in total farm output. To ensure accurate estimates of LFA incomes, the sample estimates for each farm type are weighted by the number of holdings in each category.
