HC Deb 08 March 1993 vol 220 cc448-9W
Dr. David Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1) when the new Meridian telephone system at RAF Hereford will be installed;

(2)how much it will cost to install the new Meridian telephone system at RAF Hereford.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

Installation costs, including minor works services, will amount to some £5,000. Work is under way with a view to the system becoming operational on 1 April.

Dr. David Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what discussions he has had with(a) housing associations and (b) local authorities relating to the housing located at RAF Hereford.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

None.

Dr. David Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what information has been provided to relevant local authorities on the reasons for the closure of RAF Hereford.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

Letters were sent to the Hereford and Worcester county council and to the South Hereford district council on 5 November 1992 explaining the background to the ground training rationalisation study and its recommendations. The local defence land agent has since met both councils to confirm that the closure will proceed and to discuss the future of the site.

Dr. David Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what estimates have been made of the costs involved in removing the Meridian telephone system that is due to be installed at RAF Hereford; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

None. It is not expected that removal costs would exceed installation costs.
