To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the number of(a) surface ships currently used by the Royal Navy and (b) serving officers of Admiral rank.

The Royal Navy currently has 98 surface ships of minesweeper size and above, excluding RFA vessels, and 42 serving officers at admiral rank, including those at rear and vice admiral, excluding those who are currently on terminal leave or undergoing pre-retirement vocational training.
