HC Deb 08 March 1993 vol 220 c443W
Mr. Trimble

To ask the Attorney-General, pursuant to his answer of 18 February,Official Report, column 316, whether, prior to the discontinuance of the proceedings against Mr. Hamilton, forensic reports had been received on all materials sent for examination in connection with the proceedings.

The Attorney-General

At the time the decision to discontinue the criminal proceedings against Mr. Hamilton was made, there were certain outstanding lines of inquiry being pursued by the police which included the results of forensic examinations. However, these lines of inquiry could not be assessed as likely to produce the required corroboration for the perjury charge and were unlikely to have been completed within a time scale which would have justified an application for a further remand.
