§ Mr. MadelTo ask the Secretary of State for Education, pursuant to the oral statement of 2 March,Official Report, columns 139–43, by the Home Secretary on juvenile offending, which Department or Departments will be responsible for funding the new statutory duty on local education authorities to educate pupils who are not attending school.
§ Mr. ForthThe new duty will replace existing powers exercisable by local education authorities under section 56 of the Education Act 1944 and section 3 of the Education Act 1981. The Government do not expect this to lead to a significant increase in the costs of local education authorities.
