Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment, pursuant to her answer of 4 February,Official Report, column 319, if she will give a regional breakdown of the figure of 275,000 unemployed whose last job was in self-employment.

Estimates from the summer (June to August) 1992 indicate that in each region of Great Britain the numbers unemployed on the International Labour Organisation definition (not seasonally adjusted), who reported their employment status in their last job as self-employed were as follows.

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many people who had been unemployed in the United Kingdom for 12 months and more were(a) 18 to 25 years, (b) 26 to 40, (c) 41 to 50 and (d) 50 to 65 plus years in May 1979 and at the latest available date.

Claimant unemployment figures by age and duration are only available from October 1983, and only on a quarterly basis, for specific age and duration bands. The table gives the extent of the available data.
