HC Deb 05 March 1993 vol 220 c317W
Mr. Conway

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what plans she has to encourage regular medical checks for consultants, doctors and nursing staff in the national health service with particular reference to hepatitis B infection; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Sackville

It is the responsibility of national health service employing authorities to provide occupational health services for health care workers.

Revised guidelines designed to strengthen arrangements for preventing transmission of hepatitis B in the hospital setting have been produced by the advisory group on hepatitis, which advises the four United Kingdom health departments. The guidelines have gone out to consultation with professional bodies and the NHS.
