HC Deb 05 March 1993 vol 220 cc299-300W
Mr. Morgan

To ask the Attorney-General on how many occasions the Government have appeared before the European Court of Justice in cases concerning the European Community acquired rights directive (77/187); and what was the total cost to the Government of such representations.

The Attorney-General

[holding answer 16 February 1993]: The United Kingdom has intervened on five occasions before the European Court of Justice in cases concerning the acquired rights directive, 77/187, the first of which was in 1983. The cost of time spent by officials in preparing and in some cases presenting the cases cannot be calculated retrospectively. Some information is however still available about disbursements and I will write to the hon. Member with details about this once the records have been checked.
