HC Deb 05 March 1993 vol 220 c309W
Ms Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage if he will list the Arts Council project grants which have been granted to children's theatre.

Mr. Brooke

During the current year, there were nine project grants awarded to children's theatre companies, as follows:

£
Lambeth Children's Theatre 28,000
Neti Neti 28,000
Open Hand 22,220
Dodgy Clutch 18,070
Action Transport 16,650
The Glee Club 15,600
MYPT 15,000
Token Gestures 11,700
Working Parts 6,000

There were additionally seven project grants to young people's theatre and theatre in education groups. The Scottish and Welsh Arts Councils and the regional arts boards also made project grants to a large number of children's and young people's theatre groups.

Ms Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage if he will discuss with the regional arts boards the establishment of specific awards to children's theatre within their areas; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Brooke

The Arts Council and the former regional arts associations issued a joint policy statement on theatre for children and young people, following the 1985 Warwick conference. That policy still applies and continues to be widely endorsed.
