HC Deb 05 March 1993 vol 220 c362W
Mr. Welsh

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what finance and other resources are currently made available to general practitioner-provided casualty services by hospitals in each health board.

Mr. Stewart

[holding answer 4 March 1993]: The information is not held centrally.

Mr. Welsh

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what limitations are imposed on general practitioner hospital casualty services; and how these are regulated.

Mr. Stewart

[holding answer 4 March 1993]: The scope of the casualty service provided by general practitioners is a matter for health boards and individual practitioners. In each case, clinical judgment will determine whether a patient should be treated by the general practitioner or referred to a larger hospital or a specialist. Where necessary, referral protocols can be agreed between GPs and the hospitals with which they regularly deal.
