Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment which policy proposals and priorities on the environment established by the Danish presidency of the European Council will have(a) immediate effect and (b) longer-term effect on environmental policy in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Maclean

The United Kingdom, with all other member states, will be bound by all environmental measures which are adopted by the Environment Council during the Danish Presidency and will need to ensure that they are properly implemented in the United Kingdom in the timescale specified in each measure.
