HC Deb 04 March 1993 vol 220 c275W
Mr. Stephen

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will establish a national computer database for the immediate registration of bail orders for the information of any other court when considering an application for bail by an arrested person.

Mr. Jack

The national criminal record system, which is expected to come into operation in spring 1994, will have the facility for recording the remand status of the defendant, although it will only be at a later state of the project that courts will be able to enter and retrieve this information directly.

Mr. Stephen

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will take steps to ensure that the computer database containing the criminal records of convicted persons is kept fully up to date, including brief facts of each offence, for the information of courts when sentencing or considering bail applications.

Mr. Charles Wardle

The national criminal record system, which is expected to come into operation in spring 1994, will be kept up to date through the direct input of data by police forces and will include brief details of each offence entered on the system.
