To ask the Secretary of State for Education how many children of(a) primary age and (b) secondary age, (i) in each local authority area and (ii) in total have been statemented in each of the last five years.

Separate information on primary and secondary age children for whom a statement of special educational needs has been made is not available. Information on the numbers of children of all ages for whom statements of special educational needs were made for the first time during each of the calendar years 1987 to 1991, the latest year for which information is available, in each local education authority in England is given in the table.
