§ Mr. TrimbleTo ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list the payments of compensation for miscarriages of justice made in Northern Ireland under section 133 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 or ex gratia from public funds indicating, in each case, the period of imprisonment in respect of which the payment was made.
§ Mr. MatesSince section 133 came into operation, the right to compensation under that provision has been acknowledged in three cases. In none has the full amount yet been assessed, although interim payments on account —not specifically related to the period of imprisonment —have been made. No ex-gratia payments of this nature have been made from public funds over the period.
