To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland which five manufacturing industries have been the largest foreign earners in Scotland in each of the last five years.

Mr. Stewart

According to the Scottish Council Development and Industry it carries out an annual survey of Scottish manufactured exports and this is the most comprehensive source of information available.

In each of the five years to December 1991, the five leading exporters among Scottish manufacturing industries have been, beginning with the largest: office machinery, food and drink, chemicals, electronics and mechanical engineering. The order has been unchanged over the five-year period.
