HC Deb 02 March 1993 vol 220 c118W
Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what plans he has to permit universities and other higher and further education institutions to charge full or part fees to students direct other than through local education authorities; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Boswell

It is for universities and colleges of higher education to set their own fee rates. The Government have no power to set the fees charged by institutions. We have no plans to change the current arrangements whereby standard tuition fees are reimbursed from public funds for students holding mandatory awards.
