To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what action he has taken in pursuance of the Marine Accident Investigation Branch recommendation of 1992 concerning provision of notices on all bathing beaches likely to be affected by the wash of shipping passing close to shore.

Mr. Norris

As it was not formal or addressed to a specific body or authority, the recommendation and a brief account of the incident from which it stemmed has been included in the MAIB publication "Summary of Investigations".

The MAIB will ensure that the local authorities concerned are informed well ahead of this year's bathing season.
