To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a statement on the results of the valleys initiative launched by his predecessor in 1988.

I am currently engaging consultants to undertake an evaluation of the programme for the valleys, and 1 will publish the results in due course.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what proposals he has for an independent evaluation exercise on the valleys initiative.
