HC Deb 01 March 1993 vol 220 c25W
Mr. Bayley

To ask the Lord President of the Council, pursuant to the answer of 15 February by the Secretary of State for Education,Official Report, column 51, what action the Privy Council takes over applications to register a business name containing the word university.

Mr. Newton

Since June 1992, the Privy Council has been specified as the relevant body under the Company and Business Names Regulations 1981 whose consent is required to the use of the word "university" in a business name. In considering applications for consent, it is the practice to seek the advice of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Education.
