Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what was the public library book fund for each local authority in(a) 1982, (b) 1987 and (c) 1992, at 1993 prices.

Mr. Key

Readily available information on book fund expenditure comes from statistics collected by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy. Expenditure is expressed in pounds per 1,000 population. The table is presented on the same basis with figures adjusted to 1992–93 prices.
