§ Mr. ForthThe table gives the net institutional expenditure on LEA-maintained secondary schools in cash and real terms for the years 1987–88 to 1991–92, the latest year for which figures are available. The figures for 1991–92 include estimates of expenditure for six LEAs.
Numbers of full-time equivalent secondary school pupils fell from 3.1 million in 1987–88 to 2.8 million in 1991–92. Spending per secondary pupil rose from £2,068 to £2,277—both in 1992–93 prices—over the five-year period.
