HC Deb 29 June 1993 vol 227 c448W
Mr. Chris Smith

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the policy of his Departments on the purchase and use of(a) recycled paper, (b) low-energy light bulbs, (c) tropical hardwoods, (d) peat and (e) cars with catalytic converters.

Sir John Cope

The Chancellor of the Exchequer's Departments all pursue a policy of green housekeeping. In respect of the items referred to:

  1. (a) where possible and cost effective, recycled paper is used;
  2. (b) low-energy light bulbs are already in use or are being progressively installed in all Departments;
  3. (c) where technically feasible, tropical hardwoods will not be used;
  4. (d) peat is not used by several Departments; advice on avoiding the use of peat will be issued by others;
  5. (e) some Departments already use cars with catalytic converters and in future all cars purchased or leased will have catalytic converters where practicable.
