HL Deb 29 June 1993 vol 547 cc25-6WA
Lord Cavendish of Furness

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What arrangements exist among the European Community member states for consular cooperation.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

EC partners have agreed guidelines for the protection of unrepresented EC nationals by EC missions in Third Countries. This means British nationals can seek help from any EC mission in a country where there is no British mission. This is a positive development and an excellent example of practical EC co-operation which will have direct benefit for Britons overseas.
