§ Mr. George HowarthTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the names, occupations and current employers of those who currently hold positions in each public body to which he makes appointments; if he will make a statement on the considerations taken into account when making such appointments; and if he will list details of the posts and salaries or allowances payable which have changed since the publication of "Public Bodies 1992".
§ Mr. Norris[holding answer 25 June 1993]: Lists of names, occupations and current employers of persons appointed to public bodies by my right hon. Friend are not held centrally and up-to-date lists could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. The considerations taken into account by him when making appointments will vary according to the needs of the body concerned and any statutory requirements relevant to it.
The main changes in data on posts, salaries and allowances, since it was provided for "Public Bodies 1992", is as follows:
British Railways Board. All salaries were increased by 1.5 per cent. for 1992–93, giving a salary of £216,195 for the chairman; the person listed in the deputy chairman column has left the board and a new part-time vice-chairman has been appointed at a salary of £120,000;
