§ Mr. CallaghanTo ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will make a statement on the future of social work training.
§ Mr. BowisOn 21 June my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State announced the appointment of a new chairman of the Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work (CCETSW), the body responsible for the promotion and regulation of social work training. At the same time, we published the Government response to a recent policy and financial management review of CCETSW, which emphasised that the main task of the central council must be to ensure that social services training of vocational, professional and post-qualifying levels properly equips staff to meet the needs of the 1990s. Copies of the report of the review and the Government's response will be placed in the Library.
