To ask the President of the Board of Trade what was the total value of United Kingdom exports to(a) Iran and (b) Iraq for each year from 1980, broken down into civil and defence-related exports for each country.

Information on United Kingdom visible trade is pubished in the "Annual Abstract of Statistics", a copy of which is available in the Library.

For reasons of commercial confidentiality, it has been the consistent policy of successive Governments not to disclose particulars of defence trade with other countries. It is therefore not possible to provide a breakdown into civil and defence-related exports.
