To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many boxers have been killed, or brain damaged by boxing in each of the last five years.

The information requested concerning deaths for the period 1987 to 1991 in England and Wales is routinely published by the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys in its monitor entitled "Fatal accidents occurring during sporting and leisure activities" series DH4; information for 1992 is not yet available.

During this period, one death was registered in 1987.

The information requested for the incidence of brain damage is not available centrally.
