asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many places there are in (a) bail hostels and (b) combined probation/bail hostels; and how many additional places of each kind they plan to provide.

As at 1 1 th June 1993, there were 659 places in 30 approved bail hostels and 1,987 places in 84 approved probation/bail hostels. The approved hostel expansion programme aims to increase the total by 204 in 1993-94. 120 places in 1994-95 and 125 places in 1995-96. Priority continues to be given to the provision of places for bailees but not all the additional places will be necessarily of this kind.
