§ Sir John CopeThe Government recognise the importance of increased reclamation and recycling of waste packaging. They are currently considering two consultants' reports which they commissioned, "Economic Instruments and Recovery of Resources from Waste" by Environmental Resources Ltd. and "Landfill Costs and Prices: Correcting Possible Market Distortions" by Coopers and Lybrand, and responses by local government, industry and interested individuals. The reports and the responses will help to inform the Government's consideration of whether economic instruments might be used to stimulate higher recovery and recycling rates for waste, including packaging waste.
