HL Deb 22 June 1993 vol 547 cc5-6WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will seek a meeting of the Security Council in order to call for a United Nations sponsored investigation of the massacre at Harbel in Liberia of an estimated 300 people and the injury of 700 others by unidentified forces.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

Such a meeting has already taken place. The President of the UN Security Council issued a statement on 9th June 1993 condemning the massacre. A copy has been placed in the Libraries of the House. Further to this statement, the Secretary-General's Special Envoy, Mr. Trevor Gordon-Somers, is carrying out a full investigation.
