HC Deb 21 June 1993 vol 227 c26W
Mr. Matthew Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the United Kingdom's contribution to the international relief effort in south Sudan; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Britain has committed almost £21 million in humanitarian assistance to southern Sudan since the international relief effort, Operation Lifeline Sudan was established in 1989. More than £2 million of this has been committed this year.

A senior ODA official is participating in an EC troika visit to the area from 18 to 23 June to assess the situation and consider how further help can best be provided.
