asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will support any part of the amendments passed by the European Parliament to strengthen the Common Position on the proposed Cosmetics Directive.

Her Majesty's Government are content with the text of the proposal which was adopted at the Internal Market Council of the Community on 14th June. The text is the Common Position which member states unanimously adopted last December.

The Government are committed to the cessation of animal testing as soon as validated alternatives to such methods are available.
