On 1 October 1992, the legal definition of a stillbirth was altered: from a baby born dead after 28 weeks of completed gestation or more, to one born dead after 24 completed weeks gestation or more. 2 The number of conceptions to girls under 16 is greater than the number of births and abortions to girls under 16, because many girls who become pregnant at age 15 will have the birth or abortion at age 16. Further, a conception in one calendar year can lead to a birth or abortion in the next calendar year.
