To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many car-related offences were reported in the Metropolitan police area in January to December 1992; and how many resulted in prosecutions and convictions respectively.

The available information on notifiable offences relates to vehicle crime which includes offences of theft of and from a vehicle and aggravated vehicle taking. In the Metropolitan police district in 1992, there were 241,437 recorded offences.

Information on the number of defendants prosecuted and convicted in 1991 is given in the following table. Data for 1992 will not be available until the autumn.
