HC Deb 14 June 1993 vol 226 c448W
Ms. Mowlam

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many women are currently chief executives of nationalised industries; and what monitoring he carries out of the number of women in chief executive positions in the private sector.

Miss Widdecombe

Currently there are no women chief executives of nationalised industries, although there are women on some of their boards. The Government encourage all employers to make the best use of women's talents at all levels in their organisations. It is for employers to ensure this is happening by monitoring. We firmly believe that women should be given every opportunity to advance their careers and progress to higher levels.
